Puppet Hub

A global network for professionals, amateurs, and people who just like puppets.

I was informed by Ning (because I am an administrator of another Ning Network) that they will soon start to charge for their service.  Has this been discussed?  What will happen to the Hub?

We've (as in the Friendly Puppet Hub Admin) always paid for the premium, non-ad, non Ning URL network that is the current Puppet Hub. We haven't been using the free version. The difference for us, coming July 20th is that the pricing goes up for what we have. If we are to keep the things as they are with video and storage expandability, the price tag is a minimum $50/mth. Since even the previous $33/mth was already getting a little costly coming out of our nearly barren pockets, I have been planning on offering a few ways online for members to support the Hub costs. These are things like Cafe Press offerings and a donations tab. I'll probably be promoting our own click on ads a little more too that will bring in a few bucks here and there from Amazon and other companies wanting to promote their puppet related businesses.

If anyone wants to help out or has ideas for keeping the coffers full, these ideas are always welcome. In the meantime, look for the fundraising tidbits to appear. Supposedly Ning will make all the extra cash worthwhile by offering lots of new cool services. We shall see!

I for one will be happy to donate. I think puppet hub is vital to the world wide puppet community, and is a great educational tool. I think once you let the members know howyou will have no trouble covering your costs. Long live Puppet Hub!!!!

: ) Thank you very much, David.

Hello, all, it is I, Ms. Puppet Hub Admin (not to be confused with Mr. PHA, above, who most often uses this account these days). I just wanted to call your attention to the brand new Puppet Hub Amazon Store (see the new tab, above). It is a work in progress, but for right now, I threw a few things in there that might be of interest to some of you. Please, stop in and take a look around. If you have something for sale on Amazon, or if you have a great book, video or other item to suggest, please let us know. And if you want to support the Hub, you can use our store to do any Amazon shopping you like, just click on the "Powered by Amazon" link to visit the full Amazon site, and anything you purchase after that will bring us a small, but very helpful commission. Thanks very much, Hubbers!
BTW, to return to Puppet Hub while in the store, simply click on the "Puppet Hub Community" link on the upper right side of the page.
As with David I would be interested in helping the cause here. The puppet Hub supplies a unique social networking environment as stated in it's mission statement. "to promote the art". "Thanks as always for your efforts" let me know if/when you figure out a way to negotiate how so I can jump on board. As much as I hate to agree with David on anything :)

Thanks, Joseph! : ) A donate button may appear sometime soon, for those who want to help.

We will also be actively seeking ads/sponsored links to feature ( I know we have had a few inquiries in the past), for those of you with sites, products, or services you'd like to promote. We are getting some decent traffic these days (54,000 page views and about 4,000 unique visitors in the last 30 days). Mr. Admin and I (Ms. Admin) will discuss and post more information soon.

In the meantime, our Amazon store is there for anyone who'd like to shop and support the Hub at the same time -- I've added a bunch of Henson stuff and some Avenue Q things, more additions coming soon. New widgets on the homepage feature some of our products that might be of interest to members or to any other visitors who happen by. : )
According to my accountant, even though this is not a 501C3 nonprofit organization, those of us who include puppetry in our work can count donations we make here as professional expenses. This is just as we might count professional membershipships or conferences.

That probably doesn't help hobbyists nor non-U.S. members here, but it's a help. I've already done this for another Ning network, Professional Storyteller, & will be donating here, too.

You're ahead of Professional Storyteller in your Amazon store. Whatever it takes to keep this great resource going.
It is a wonderful resource :)

I think there should be a Puppet Hub book full of wonderful tutorials made up of some of the stunning work in progress shots some of the members have put on their profiles and all the expertise thats flying around on here. It would sell out in seconds! It would be the new puppet bible!

wyoh.
I'm willing to sell off a few of my puppets and donating the proceeds if that will help keep the site up. let me know
