While attending Lynda Barry's "Writing the Unthinkable" workshop, I constructed a mini-Marlys marionette for her. She held it up to a drawing of Marlys and said "Look, this is what you look like when you're flat!"
Mini-Marlys' control is made from a wooden ruler with a #2 pencil (peg mounted/removable from controller) for her foot bar to commemorate the perennial school-agelessness of the character. She was super short-strung for display but is fully functional.

I love Lynda, she has such a special sense of humor.
The tiny marionette is mighty fine as well.
