How are you? I haven't talked to anyone since last summer in MO. So much has happened since then. Are you planning on going back this year?

Hey! How was Savannah? Sorry I didn't answer sooner- didn't realize that you hasd written to me. Great picture, by the way. Hope all is well with you, your family, etc.
I REALLY wanted to go to Savannah and MO but finances weren't in my favor this time around.
We're in the same state- I hope to be able to see y'all between trips to St. Cloud where I have family.
Keep in Touch!:)

What do you plan on doing next July? I'm leading an EF TOUR to Italy as a HS graduation gift for our oldest, probably in June, but I have July earmarked for Nationals in Atlanta, Georgia! Maybe we could carpool and share expenses if Hannah didn't want to go. What do you think about that? How far is Palm Bay from St. Cloud anyway? Are you near SR 192? Instead of coming home by way of the Turnpike I might just go east toward Melbourne/Palm Bay area instead.
I know exactly what you mean about family and work getting more of your time lately. My graduate classes are keeping me busy this summer. But, by summer's end, I hope to have the nonprofit up and running-The Palette Project,Inc.-a nonprofit puppetry organization.

I wish that I had been able to go. Think about what I said about Atlanta National Festival July 14-29, 2009. I'm going to start saving bit by bit starting in August. Bad storm just hit so I'll talking to you again soon. As my kids would say" L8r!:) And what about Mo.? When is their festival next year? Does anyone know yet? Hello to Hannah and goodbye for now.

Hello, Lori and all-- let me know if you received my note about how my little European puppets were made. Hope you are well!

Hello FlaCracker,
I saw your comment on the Strings page on July 11 about carving marionettes. I have carved some using the techniques used in a very large book, the Dwiggins Marionettes, by Dorothy Abbe, published by Abrams, New York. This may still be available through www.puppetbooks.co.uk or I could email you some of the drawings in it. The ones I made did work very well, but took a long time to carve. The attached photos include three from the book, and a knee joint I started carving.
Best wishes,

Hi FlaCracker,
Saw your pictures of the Harlequin Puppet Theatre, my Dad took me there way back in 1966, one of the places that got me going on marionettes.
Another book I have on marionettes is Marionette Sourcebook, Theory and Technique, by Luman Coad, from Charlemagne Press, 1993. Lots of variations on marionettes and controls. Hope this helps.

Yes, if you come to England again, The Little Angel marionette theatre in Islington, North London, is well worth a visit, if you haven't been there. Again it is one of the places my Dad took me in the early1960s, when we saw The Little Mermaid, which at that time was performed with live voices. The theatre has two joined marionette bridges, one just behind the proscenium, and one further back, and room below floor level to work rod puppets and glove puppets.
The other permanent puppet theatre is here in Norwich, where I worked for a couple of years when it first opened in 1980. It is going through troubled times at the moment because its Arts Council Funding has been stopped.
There is also a permanent Puppet Theatre in Scotland at Biggar, near Edinburgh. They do a lot of Ultra Violet shows.
