Relationship to Puppetry
My first puppet was a dark green Folkmanis™ Frog (or Toad?) Given to me by my mother when I was 3. I still have him, though he's been retired. Since then I've purchased several Folkmanis™ Puppets of various size and species. I've also made a few different types of puppets over the years as well as animal costumes (Fursuits).

I was also raised on the lovable characters featured on PBS. Sesame Street, Lamb Chop's Play Along, Puzzle Place, Between the Lions, and others. Jim Henson's Muppet Movies/Shows were always a favorite, as well as their other programs like Dinosaurs. Then there was ALF and a few of the more adult humor puppet shows that I also enjoyed. I still watch these types of shows along with animation to keep up with the times and techniques used in my industry.
What First Got Me Interested in Puppetry
I can trace the roots of my childhood creativity to the age of 3, when I started drawing with crayons and playing with puppets. At 4, I saw an ad for "Rescuers Down Under", where an animator flipped through some sketches. I immediately decided I wanted to animate.
After learning that, I soon learned that Mickey was a woman in a costume, that Kermit was hand inside a sock, and that the Pirates of the Caribbean were Robots. To most kids, this "Santa Claus" revelation would be a time of sadness and a loss of one's childhood dreams. Not for me. I had pulled back the Wizard's curtain, and learned the secrets of his illusions... Now I could become the Wizard.
My Puppetry (or Puppet) Hero
Everyone respects Jim Henson and his companies' world-wide team of experts that still voice, animate, and create amazing and imaginative creatures. They are all respected favorites!

As for my Heroes, they are the individuals, and independents out there who do just as well as Henson's team ever has. We may never have heard of them, but when we get a look at their work on YouTube, or at a random convention or performance, we see just how amazing they can be. That's always a thrill.
If I Were a Puppet, I'd Be...
Being an animator, furry, and all-around geek, I've thought this through...

I'd be a cartoonish red fox, who behaves just like I normally would, but with less restraint (if it will get a laugh to do so). Basically Me, but cuter and more exaggerated.

Wes and Junior Explain™ - NEW review series coming soon!

Posted on March 14, 2011 at 3:00pm 0 Comments

Wes and Junior travel the galaxy trading goods (and selling cheap junk).

Who better to review, explain, and poke fun at your favorite pop Sci-Fi icons than them?

Wes and Junior Explain™ is my new (puppet) video series that will hopefully have you laughing

at the good, bad, and often ridiculous topic we call science fiction.

Hi, nice to see another furry fan on here. :) Not sure if you've ever been at any of the conventions I've been to, I have been to many, so maybe you have seen my work before. My next one will be MFF in Chicago in November, let me know if you will be there.

I normally don't go to megaplex, and this year MFF is my only con. I do sometimes make it down to St Louis, as I have a friend there I sometimes visit. I know Springfield isn't that close to St Louis, but maybe we can meet there one of these days.
