Yes, I make all my own puppets - the smaller hand puppets are paper mache heads, larger are foam.

Did the book tell that Burr's famous puppet Kukla [ doll in Russian] got his name when burr went to the ballet and went backstage to meet the ballarina and she saw The clown puppet and said Kukla, Kukla. He was known as Kukla to hundreds of thousands of people all over the world. It just shows it pays to take your puppet with you sometimes. By the way Burr was family.
