I have been a puppeteer since age 17, in the summer of 2001, when performing for the first time on a missions trip to the Dominican Republic, with friends from church. Since then, I have been writing and performing puppet shows for churches throughout the North East and am aiming to perform at least once in each of the 50 states. So far, I have performed in VT, NH, ME, MA, CT, NY, NJ, PA and MD.
At age 19, I puppeteered for the Audrey II, in a local production of Little Shop of Horrors, in Barre, VT. Professional gigs I've had so far include puppeteering for the character of Sumo and various others on Emmy-Award winning TV show, Taylor's Attic, starring real-life ventriloquist, Taylor Mason, in Columbus, OH, in 2007, and puppeteering for various characters in a play, in Nyack, called Cirkus Jacques in 2008, which has since been renamed Cirkus Fiasco and is currently in the process of being revamped for upcoming performances. Although I am originally from VT, I now live in Nyack, NY and am pursuing puppetry on a more professional level, specifically in NYC. Also, if anyone in NY or nearby states would like me to perform a custom-written show for your church, school, parties, etc. please let me know.
What First Got Me Interested in Puppetry
Although I have always had a habit of mouthing along to old records of famous comedians, singers, show-tunes, etc. as a kid, I never realized the great potential of this rather simple ability at the time, as one of the greatest mediums of communication until participating in a missions trip my youth group took to the Dominican Republic when I was 17. While our primary purpose of the trip was to build a physical church for a local village, our form of night ministry was a canned puppet show, pre-recorded and dubbed to Spanish music/dialogue. I knew before we even started rehearsing that puppetry was my passion and calling in life.
My Puppetry (or Puppet) Hero
Jim Henson and Kevin Murphy (Tom Servo on MST3K) because of their inspiration to me and Taylor Mason because he has opened the door for me in the puppet biz and without him, I would not even have a toe in the door right now.
My two favorite puppet characters, without a doubt, are Cookie Monster and Swedish Chef.
