Meet the Dootles!

Rob and I had been looking for some short sketches to incorporate into a show we're doing for a Relay For Life fundraising event, and decided it would be fun to do "Mahna Mahna." The only problem was, I thought it looked silly for any of our puppets to sing the "doot doot" parts, when their mouths couldn't make an "O" shape.

So, there we sat, watching the Snowths and the little caveman dude singing "Mahna Mahna" on YouTube, and we thought "How hard could those be to… Continue

Making puppet from The glorified sock puppet pattern

Im finishing a puppet from patterns from Puppet Project. I dont know how many hands I made. It was all so tight, so I couldnt turn the hand out side in.
I think it will be cute, little, pink girl.

Interview with the shop manager, the trubadour and the puppet builder.

Today you can read a interview with me in the Icelandic magazine Séð og heyrt. Where the rich and the famous are LOL. In this intreview, I talk about my puppets, the music and other. It was just funny! Two pages of pictures and interview. The title is: "Brings the puppets out of the closet!!" I think I have to be more active in this puppet building. Im finishing one puppet these days. And few minutes ago I bought the melon head pattern from… Continue

Take the Stephen Colbert Puppet Challenge!

Hey all,

A while ago I made a puppet Stephen Colbert, and today I've finally made my outlandishly unlikely "Stephen Colbert Puppet Challenge" video, which is my attempt to get my puppet on The Colbert Report:

Our First Real Venture into Puppet Building

We've been wanting to do it for such a long time, and we've dabbled at a couple of projects before, but now we're up to our eyeballs in foam and fur, and waaaaaaaay beyond our ability level!

Our intentions were honest. We wanted to sign up for the "Glorified Sock Puppet" class at I-Fest, but figured we needed a little experience under our belt. It wouldn't be a good idea to show up with our sewing machine in hand, and say, "Now how do you work this thing?"

So, we found the… Continue

19 new puppet designs!

Hey all,

Since I'm nearly to the halfway point of designing the puppets for my outrageously overly-ambitious demo reel project (which will take a year and serve as something of a Master's course for me), I thought I'd share the sketches I've done of the first 19 puppets. Only 23 more to go!

I'd love to hear what you think!

The Devil's Minstrels "Heavy Metal Puppet Band"

My name is Dave Maynard, Dax - I'm the creator of The Devil's Minstrels - the most *unique* Heavy Metal band in the world (heehee). Our humor is extremely tongue-in-cheek, completely clean with absolutely no references to sex, drugs, alcohol etc.

We went public on May 9th via youtube (and others) with our 1st Episode (in 3 parts - all released) entitled "Rockumentary." The plan is to put out many "episodes" in the coming months regarding all the different aspects of the band member's… Continue

I think it will be some kind of puppet

Well.....

I sew the "face" and covered the foam head. Sew also the neck to the head. Then I glued the fleece to the mouth hole. OMG the smell of the glue!! I got little bit dizzy of the smell LOL. After opening doors and windows, it was quite better.

First, I was thinking about covering the head with fur. I didnt find any fur right not. But I wanted to finish this… Continue
