Attention Puppet Friends!!!!

Hi everyone:

Our friends; Pastor Jeff Johnson and his wife Karyn of Calvary Chapel Downey, California just returned from a trip to Israel where they visited several churches and their outreaches. Calvary Chapel of Tel Aviv expressed a desire to start a Puppet Ministry to use in their ministry to the children in the area. Since this is something new to them and they do not have the finances needed, Pastor Jeff and Karyn asked if we could help provide them with information and supplies that… Continue

The Man.

MDF board bones and masking tape joints. Feet of washing liquid balls weighed down by plasticine.

Our headless newcomer takes a bow, to show that his torso has been bent into a V shape.

The V shape being held by duct tape and a small square of sponge.

Muscle added to the legs will give shape, and make sure the knees… Continue

Dressing the Door.

Here's the door. I want to give it a skin so I can color it. Has to be a skin that doesn't limit the movement. So I go with tshirt cotton.

Here's the door from the back. You can see I tried painting the foam it with a mix of latex and black acrylic. This has reminded me never to paint onto foam/sponge again. Especially not with anything wet. I dried out most of it with a paint drying gun, which gave the kitchen a characterful… Continue

The open stage.

I meant my stage to close like a box, but that doesn't give quite enough room. When the flaps open out it seems to be just the right amount.

Below is my stage opened out as mentioned.

This relies on a table surface ofcourse.

Here's the gap that needs filling in. Hard to measure exactly, but as long as it's symmetrical, that doesn't matter.

So the paper triangle is the size of the… Continue

Ready to begin...again.

So, I ended up destroying my lastest puppet attempt that I posted pictures of in a previous blog. I was not happy with my paper armature which was collapsing under the weight of the clay. In addition, I changed clay colors when I had to buy more and the difference in colors was making it difficult to create a smooth surface; it looked like there were shadows where there weren't and there were dips where it looked smooth. So I blended the clay together.

I also bought the Jeff Dunham… Continue

Back to work!

After the extreme failure of my last latex puppet attempt, I have picked myself up and dusted myself off...and started again. Though, I must admit, I could not bear restarting the same project all over again...not yet anyways; so, I have begun a new project!

I'm not ready to disclose my plans for this design, but I'm very excited about it! Oh, and there are two colors of clay because, after my last mold making catastrophe, I've switched to… Continue
